Bruce Hood a Canadian experimental psychologist and cognitive neuroscience also the Director of the Bristol Cognitive Development Center (United Kingdom) Presents
2011 Royal Institution Christmas Lectures Meet Your Brain Part 3'
In the third and final part of this fun episodic lecture Bruce Hood demon straits in a warm friendly manner how people try to figure out what other people are thinking starts of with some cute baby chickens , Bruce explaining how it takes us much longer to reach maturity and become independent than animals, and this is because our brains have so much social learning to do and how we learn to recognize each others faces and how we communicate with facial expressions.
Bruce talks about and emotions like disgust, and demon straits how we experience pain when seeing someone else experiencing pain and how we give inanimate objects human properties and talks about mirror neurons - (check out excellent videos of V S Ramachandran on popular video hosting site an expert on is this subject and I think is excellent viewing.)
We have a dancing parrot and a pirate and billy the kid doing magic illusion tricks al plus a self aware Elephant also Dolphins Chimpanzees and Orangutangs + other similar animals have a sense a self awareness. then he talks about the electronic social communication revolution. Could a robot ever feel empathy* He talks to a cute charismatic little walking talking robot and how we should all try and get along with all the seven billion people with are social brains.
Goodnight and look after your brain.
The Royal Institution Christmas Lectures have been hosted at the Royal Institution London every year since 1825 and are a series of lectures on a single scientific topic . The lectures present scientific subjects to a public audience, including teenagers, in an educational charming manner. Michael Faraday was the first Christmas Lecture in 1825. There wasn't much organized education for youngsters in the early 19th Century. Faraday hosted a total of nineteen Christmas Lectures series in total.
The Christmas Lectures have been presented every year since 1825, except during the Second World War which I think is impressive.
Scientists who have hosted the lectures are Baroness Susan Greenfield (former Director of the Royal Institution) naturalist history TV presenter Sir David Attenborough, brilliant astronomer TV presenter of the cosmos series (Available on this site) Carl Sagan + author of Contact made into 1997 movie and evolutionary biologist and atheist Richard Dawkins and Nobel Laureate George Porter,
The lectures have been show on United Kingdom TV since 1966.
Full list of Lectures is to long to put on here but can be found on a popular informative website beginning with W.
Also torrents for many of these former programs are available in the natural sciences section and have not only scientific but historical interest also.
